Camp Hollow Creek — Entry 01: The Box

People go to Blairstown to see where the murders didn’t happen.

They visit Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, where Friday the 13th was filmed in 1980. The lake is real. So are the cabins. What happened between them was a movie.

About sixty miles west, across the Pennsylvania line, Camp Hollow Creek was still taking campers. It had opened in 1973. It would close in 1984. Somewhere between those dates, the Hollister brothers found themselves with things to explain and reasons not to explain them.

I hadn’t heard of the place until I came across the box.

There were photographs in it, old files, camp paperwork. I started going through them a few months ago. At first I was trying to put a history together. When the camp opened. Who ran it. Why it closed.

I thought the last question would be as simple as the first two.

It hasn’t been.
